Free-Range Red Stag Hunt in the Patagonian Mountains

Located in the province of Neuquén, in the heart of the Argentine Patagonian mountains, Estancia Corral de Piedra offers an authentic free-range red stag hunting experience in one of South America’s most remote and impressive natural environments. The hunting estate covers approximately 60,000 acres within the Andes mountain range, surrounded by conifer forests, rivers, lakes, valleys and open mountain slopes. Game roams freely across an isolated territory with very limited human presence, making the area particularly suitable for hunters seeking a genuine mountain hunt.

The main hunting season takes place during the red stag rut, from March until early May. Hunting days generally begin by glassing the landscape from elevated positions, searching for stags in the open slopes and in the “mallines”, the characteristic marshy grasslands of Patagonia. Once an animal has been located, the hunt continues through a spot-and-stalk approach, planning the route according to the wind, terrain and movements of the stag.

The average shooting distance is approximately 200 yards, although the guides aim, whenever conditions allow, to bring hunters into a shorter and more comfortable shooting position. 300 Winchester Magnum are recommended. Despite the mountainous surroundings, the hunt is not described as excessively physically demanding, as roads and tracks provide access to much of the hunting territory by 4WD vehicle.

Horses may also be used in some areas. The package includes seven nights, six hunting days, one-to-one professional guiding and one free-range red stag with no score limit. At the end of each hunting day, guests stay in a traditional Patagonian-style lodge located beside the Quillén River, featuring six master bedrooms with private bathrooms.
