In the heart of the Maremma, the wild boar is one of the most characteristic inhabitants of the woodland. Strong, cautious and equipped with highly developed senses, it moves through Mediterranean scrub, forest clearings and agricultural land with a remarkable awareness of its surroundings. The Tuscan wild boar differs from many Eastern European populations through its generally more agile and slender build.
Specimens in peak condition may weigh between 80 and 110 kg while remaining remarkably fast and elusive. Its exceptional hearing and acute sense of smell make every approach a test of patience, wind awareness and the hunter’s ability to read the landscape. The hunt may be conducted by stalking or from elevated high seats, depending on the conditions and applicable hunting regulations.
During the cooler months, generally from October until the end of February, the traditional driven hunt may also be organised, when the weather and vegetation are more suitable for this method. This experience combines the wild character of the Maremma with local hunting traditions, taking the hunter through a landscape of forests, hills and open countryside.
